Types Of Avocados
There are two main types of avocados that are sold and consumed worldwide, they are known as the Hass and the Fuerte avocados in most parts of the world. The Hass avocado is native to Guatemala and it has a dark purple/brownish color with slightly rough and thicker skin.



It has an oval shape while the Fuerte avocado, which is native to Mexico has a thinner, smoother with brighter green skin.



The Fuerte avocado contains less oil which makes it tasteless creamy, it also has less stronger skin, therefore, it must be picked and carried with care to prevent it from being damaged during transport.

Another fact about the Fuerte avocado is that it takes much longer to ripen than the Hass avocado that is why you find the Hass avocado is commonly found on shelves compared to the Fuerte avocado.

Avocados are one of the best sources of monounsaturated fat, polyunsaturated fatty acids, and vitamin E, but don’t go crazy and start eating a lot of avocados yet until you finish reading the rest of this post.

You see avocados are very high in calories which is why so many people choose not to eat it, even though this is a superfood that is worth eating, it also has high amounts of fats in it.

That said, you can still eat up to 3 avocados per week even if you are on a strict diet plan, just make sure to cut down on other high-calorie foods when you do.

Avocados are another great source of soluble fiber and they contain some other useful minerals as well such as iron, copper, potassium, biotin, and folate.

Avocados also contain certain types of oils known as oleic and linoleic acid which when consumed along with a balanced diet can help prevent high cholesterol.

Another great benefit of eating avocados is appetite control, you see because avocados are higher in calories than other fruits and vegetables, they make you feel fuller for longer periods leading to less consumption of foods or overeating.

Lastly, avocados are a great source of antioxidants, they are filled with vitamin E and they are great for keeping your skin healthy.

The best way to eat avocados is when they are ripe and soft to the touch, leaving them at room temperature for up to a week checking them from time to time will help you get the best taste of your avocados.

To know when your avocados are right for eating, feel them gently and when they feel soft to the touch, it is time to mash those mean guys up!

Another easy way to ripen your avocados faster is by putting them into a brown paper bag for a few days, the heat from the bag will help speed up the ripening process.

Do not put your avocados in the fridge to ripen, you can squeeze a half a lemon over your avocados to keep them from turning brown once opened.
